SCS Student Life
Catholic Student Life at St. Catharine School
Our Catholic school by the sea provides students with more than just academics—we nurture faith, values, and community. Catholic student life often includes daily prayer, participation in Mass, and learning about the teachings of the Church in age-appropriate ways. Students grow in character through service projects, acts of kindness, and involvement in parish and school activities. Faith is woven into everyday experiences, creating an environment where children not only excel in their studies but also learn to live with compassion, respect, and a sense of responsibility to others.
OCT 14 | Local Author Visit : Tess Thomas
A Special Author Visit Inspires SCS Students
On October 14th, SCS students enjoyed a special visit from local author Tess Thomas, who shared her heartwarming new book, Shibu’s Tale. Students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade gathered for an engaging read-aloud and discussion that brought Shibu the cat—and his fluffy, expressive tail—to life.
In Shibu’s Tale, Shibu learns to navigate his many emotions, from happiness to frustration, while discovering the importance of staying true to himself. The story encourages children to recognize, express, and embrace their feelings—an important part of developing emotional intelligence and empathy.
Author visits like this one not only spark a love of reading but also help students connect literature to real-life lessons. Through Tess Thomas’s storytelling, SCS students were reminded that every feeling matters and that kindness, self-expression, and understanding make our community stronger.

SEPT 26 | spirit wear & Student Assembly: abracabully
While decked out in school spirit wear, students enjoyed a special anti-bullying assembly. The presenter engaged our students in a fun, high-energy assembly while teaching powerful lessons on how to stand up against bullying, support friends who may be experiencing it, and remind bullies they always have better choices. This message connects perfectly with what St. Catharine School teaches everyday about being upstanders, not bystanders, who lead by example, quietly showing respect and kindness, following directions, and encouraging others to do the same.
SEPT 14 | SCS ANNUAL FAMILY BEACH PICNIC
A Bright Beginning to the 2025–2026 School Year!
Saint Catharine’s School families came together to kick off the new school year with our Annual Family Beach Picnic.
Students, parents, and staff enjoyed a day of sunshine, surf, and school spirit. With plenty of snacks, upbeat music from the DJ, and sweet treats from the ice cream truck, the event was filled with laughter, connection, and community pride. It was the perfect way to welcome everyone back and celebrate the year ahead together.

aug 31 | Blessing of the backpacks
Each year, our Catholic school community comes together to celebrate the Blessing of the Backpacks, a heartfelt tradition that marks the beginning of a new academic journey. Students bring their backpacks to Mass or a special prayer service, where they receive a blessing from our priest. This symbolic act reminds students that God walks with them daily, offering guidance, protection, and strength in their studies and friendships. It’s a meaningful moment of faith and encouragement, uniting school, family, and parish in prayer for a successful and grace-filled school year.
